As someone who loves the “keto” lifestyle and still loves to go out to eat, I’m always on the hunt forWhile tacos, burritos, nachos, and quesadillas are always crowd favorites, there are still options for lighter fare. Post-gym or post-bad day, Salsarita’s has you covered. Sometimes in queso. *Please note, our proteins are cooked with a soy-based oil and therefore not always compliant on more stricter diets such as good food that makes me feel good about eating it too! Like anyone who is on a stricter eating plan, the FIRST thing I did when I went to try Salsarita’s is look up their menu online. The key to eating right is always being prepared. If you’re caught off guard, it’s hard to see the options laid out in front of you and you’re more likely to veer off your intended path. So when I look at this website, I see something that catches my eye, a nutrition calculator!This is amazing. I wish every single restaurant had this on their website. You can create exactly what you’re going to get when you’re there, omitting and subbing any of the ingredients you want! I played around on that thing for about 15 minutes and salivated over the thought of shoveling sour cream and guac into my mouth the entire time. No shame.The bowls and taco salads (with no tortilla shell) are obviously your best option, but I’m sure you could get anything on their menu and just set aside the carb-filled vessel your food is traveling in! I felt that would be messy though, so I went with the bowl! I checked and unchecked options on the website until I found the combination that fit perfectly in my macros and it sounded so good. So off to Salsarita’s I went!If you’re curious as to what this particular bowl’s nutrition looked like, here’s the highlights: I started by ordering a regular bowl and then the girl making my food immediately asked me if I wanted a combo with chips and a drink, which I turned down. Next up was rice and beans. I said no to both and received zero weird looks, which is awesome, and then picked out my protein! I asked for grilled steak and sauteed shrimp. She asked me if I wanted it “split” or “double” which I did not know was an option. I got it split because I didn’t need a huge protein intake that day but I definitely felt like I got my money’s worth! I also added fajita veggies because YUM, who wouldn’t order fajita veggies? I piled on the shredded lettuce, topped with shredded cheese, sour cream, guacamole, red onions and finished with pickled jalapenos. These are the toppings that sounded good to ME but you can totally change it up! I opted out of the queso but I could easily swap it for the guac and STILL hit my macros. Speaking of macros…Paleo & Whole30.

I ate until I couldn’t eat anymore and here comes the cool part, I HAD LEFTOVERS. Even though I didn’t get rice or beans, I still had leftovers and my bowl was packed full. My bowl was packed full and I got to take some home for a snack later! I seriously love this place. I have been craving it since I had it. I will absolutely be heading back for round two.
