Salsarita’s Asheville: We Have Tofu!

Whether you’re a vegetarian or just really like the taste, tofu can be tough to find. It might even seem like, everywhere you go, the meatless options are limited to “Sure, just lettuce is fun -__-“…until now.

If you’re a tofu lover, come to Salsarita’s of Asheville for your favorite meatless protein. Tom LaFauci, our Manager in Asheville, noticed that there was one thing missing from his menu: tofu. He’d seen other restaurants serving it–many of which were vegan restaurants and vegetarian restaurants, but many were not–and knew how much our customers would love it. It wasn’t long before tofu became a staple on the menu at Salsarita’s of Asheville!

Haven’t tried tofu yet? Here are a few things to know!

  • Tofu is naturally gluten free and low in calorie.
  • It’s also rich in protein, iron and calcium.
  • With other lifestyle changes, consumption of tofu has been proven to help promote a healthier life! (And, also, it’s yum.)

Whether you live in Asheville or are just driving through, be sure to visit your local Salsarita’s, where you can enjoy your favorite Mexican foods, regardless of dietary preferences or restrictions. If you’re looking for a vegetarian or vegan restaurant with fresh flavors and endless options, visit Salsarita’s Asheville today!

4 Reasons for the Roomie Date

reasons for the roomie date

If you’re in college, you’re probably up to your eyes in storage bins and clothes, preparing to return to campus for another fun year (if you haven’t moved back in already). For some of you, this will mean new dorms and apartments, but others of you will be returning to the college dorm or apartment that you’ve already called home for a year or more.

Either way, you’ll likely be returning to roommates–some new, some old. Whether you’re reuniting with the BFFs you call roomies or meeting entirely new people altogether, one thing is for sure: the roommate date is a must.

Here are just a few benefits of the roommate date:

1. You don’t have to eat alone.

Sure, you’re a full-grown, independent adult now–we get it. But that doesn’t mean you want to eat every meal alone! When you’re hungry and don’t feel like another night of noodles or eggs, your roommate is the perfect, most accessible person to invite.

2. You can carpool!

Why take two cars when you can drive together and finally perfect your duet?

reasons for the roomie date

3. It’ll bring you even closer.

Even if you and your roommate have gotten so close you can communicate using only your eyes, it can be easy to lose touch when classes pick up. Meal time is the best time to catch up with your roommate, one-on-one. Without the distraction of cell phones or the TV, you can really find out everything that’s been going on in your roomie’s life.

4. It’s a great way to clear the air.

Bypass the passive aggressive notes because, though hilarious, they usually make things so much worse. Opt instead on voicing any concerns you may have over some shared chips and queso. It’ll help you avoid any confrontation and make it feel like less of an attack. “I really need for you to start doing your dishes…here, have some more queso!” Plus, if your roommate is going through something, this might just be the perfect chance to talk about it away from home.

Salsarita’s is the perfect place to host your roomie date. Share stories over shared chips with salsa, queso and guac. Then, dive a little deeper, while you each enjoy one of our many entrees. Salsarita’s can be found on or near many college campuses, including University of South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State University, Auburn University and many more. How to Make a Mexican Chopped Salad

How to Make a Mexican Chopped Salad

I always buy a taco or burrito at Salsarita’s.

If this sounds like you, we bet you’ve never tried our Mexican Chopped Salad. We know what you’re thinking, “Why would I want a boring ol’ salad at Salsarita’s, when there are so many other delicious items on the menu?” Our salads are anything but “boring”  and “ol’,” but more on that on another day. Today, we want to show you how ordering or making your very own Mexican Chop Salad can be just as tasty and satisfying as a taco or burrito.

The secret to making the perfect Mexican Chopped Salad is to treat it like you’re making a taco. It sounds crazy, but, trust us, it works. You just add all of your favorite taco ingredients to your salad, minus the shell.

The next time you’re making a salad at home or catering with Salsarita’s, try building a salad like this:

Step 1: Start with a big bowl, and add the shredded lettuce.

Step 2: Pick your protein. This is the first step to personalizing your dish by choosing your favorite meat, like seasoned chicken.

Step 3: Add cheese. We know some of you may not put cheese on your salads, but for those who do, be sure to put it after the protein but before the rest of your toppings.

Step 4: Add toppings. This is the best part! Add all of your favorites, like onions, olives, corn, tomatoes, salsa, and even guac, beans and rice.

Step 5: Add the dressing. This is a crucial step because, by adding the dressing to the top of the salad, you will have all of its flavor in every bite!

Got it? Good. Let’s get  choppin’! Be sure to share photos of your Mexican Chopped Salad with us on Instagram @Salsaritas!

When your cheat day turned into a cheat weekend… Monday’s are for salads.

The 10 Awkward Things That Happen At Every Summer Party

It’s the first week of summer, which means that at least one person you know is throwing a beginning of summer party (even though, let’s be honest, we’ve all been in summer mode for weeks now). Some of you are social butterflies at these parties, flittering and fluttering your way from one conversation to the next. But, for the rest of you, the only thing flittering and fluttering at a party is your heart as you brace yourself for whatever awkward thing you’ll inevitably do before the night is over.

Here are 10 of the most awkward moments you’re bound to experience during at least one of this summer’s parties:

1. Walking up and not knowing whether to enter through the front door or to walk around back.

2. Ringing the doorbell and realizing that no one heard, so you just stare through the window like this…

3. Finally getting inside and not knowing whether to hug or shake hands, so instead you do a combination of the two.

4. Saying “Nice to meet you” to someone you think you’ve never met just as they say, “It’s good to see you again.”

5. Meeting new people and immediately forgetting their names.

6. Trying to look like you belong when your one friend goes to the bathroom.

7. Trying to make your way into a conversation, but instead you just stand an awkward distance away from everyone and listen.

8. When your friend (finally) returns, and you have to act like everything was totally fine.

9. When you feel the conversation lulling and try frantically to think of something to say,…but you’ve got nothin’.

10. When all else fails, you pet the dog. Any dog.

If you’re an awkward party goer, at some point you’ll probably find yourself posted up next to the food table…because what better way to make friends than through a shared love of food? Make sure the food is awesome, and use Salsarita’s catering. With a build-your-own tacos, nachos and salad bar, plus chips, salsa and guac, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.

How to Grill Pineapple

How to Grill Pineapple

Are you fired up for summer? So are we! You’re probably firing up the grill more, too, which is why we want to share one of our favorite summer treats with you.

You already know that, at Salsarita’s, we love pineapple in the summer. Not only is it a great source of Vitamin C, but it’s also deliciously sweet and incredibly versatile. Pineapples are not just for fruit salad anymore! You can serve it in tacos, on fish, with cheese, in salsas, and, as we’re going to talk about today, you can even grill it.

So how do you grill pineapple?

First, you peel, core and cut your pineapple into rings. Then, you place the pineapple rings into a large plastic baggie and toss them in the ingredients of your choice. You can use anything from honey to butter to even hot sauce! Let your pineapple marinate for at least half an hour. (We know, we know; marinate and pineapple in the same sentence has a weird ring to it, doesn’t it? But trust us…it’s delish.)

Then preheat your grill to high heat. Once the grill is hot, put the pineapple rings on it, and grill each side for about 3 minutes or until you see grill marks.

OR, if you’d prefer, you can also cut the pineapple into smaller pieces, and grill them on skewers instead.

Grilled pineapple is great paired with fish, on a salad or even just eaten on its own. Try it, and let us know what you think @Salsaritas. And be sure to visit the location nearest you to taste our infamous pineapple salsa* for yourself—we promise you’ll love it!

Purple Heart Homes Recognized on “Wilson’s Moment of Good”

Last November, WWCB News Rising in Charlotte, NC announced their newest segment to ‘Wilson’s World’: ‘Wilson’s Moment of Good,’ hosted by Jon Wilson. This segment is completely dedicated to giving back to people throughout the Charlotte community that selflessly donated their time and financial resources to help others in need. Salsarita’s is proud to sponsor this segment, which is why we give each recipient a $500 gift card!

In May, the ‘Wilson’s Moment of Good’ recognition was presented to Tim Parker, a supporter and volunteer of Purple Heart Homes. Purple Heart Homes was founded by veterans, for veterans; co-founders John Gallina and Dale Beatty can be seen in the video as well.

“At the end of the day, we are helping our brothers and sisters with their homes. We are leaving a vet with an improvement in his house that’s going to last him 20, 30, 40 years. The vet will be able to stay in their house and be able to live there. They won’t have to go to a rehab home, a veteran’s home, or anything like that,” said Parker, upon receiving the reward.

When asked what it means to him to be a part of Purple Heart Homes, Parker replied, “It’s awesome. We’re still continuing to serve our country. We’re serving our brothers and sisters, our veterans.”

For the whole story, watch the video below.
